Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 26, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information PreparednessChecklist (preparednesschecklist.com, “the site,” “we,” “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. The site is owned and run by Ryan Herrington in the United States. By using the site you agree to this policy.

Information you give us

  • Account details. If you create a free account, we collect your name, email address, and password. Accounts are handled by our account and database provider, Supabase. Passwords are stored by Supabase in a scrambled (hashed) form; we never see your password.
  • Checklist progress. When you are logged in, the checklist items you check off are saved to your account so you can pick up where you left off on any device.
  • Settings. Your display name and your “Email reminders” on/off setting.
  • Messages. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write.

Cookies and information stored in your browser

The site itself does not set any cookies. It uses your browser’s “local storage” (a small storage area on your own device) for these things only:

  • pc_dark_mode – remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme.
  • pc_checklist_guest – if you use the checklist without an account, the items you check off are saved only in this browser on this device. If you later log in, they are copied into your account and removed from the browser.
  • sb-…-auth-token – when you log in, Supabase’s sign-in code stores your login session so you stay signed in. It is removed when you log out.

You can clear these at any time in your browser settings. Doing so will log you out and erase any progress saved as a guest. Other websites you visit from our links (such as Amazon or an advertiser) may set their own cookies on their own sites; see “Ads and affiliate links” below.

Information collected automatically

  • Hosting. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages and files requested, so it can deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
  • Accounts. Supabase keeps technical records such as the IP address and time of sign-ins to run and secure accounts.
  • Code libraries. The site loads standard open-source code from public content delivery networks (unpkg.com and cdn.jsdelivr.net). Those services receive your IP address and browser information when they send the files.
  • Analytics. We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are popular. Cloudflare describes this service as privacy-first: it does not use cookies or local storage and does not track you across other websites. We use it only for overall statistics.

Ads and affiliate links

The site shows sponsored ad images and “Recommended Gear” links. Some links are affiliate links, including links to Amazon. Ad images may be loaded from other websites, which receive your IP address and browser information when the image loads. When you click an ad or affiliate link, you leave our site, and the other website (for example, Amazon) may use its own cookies to record that you came from us so we can be paid a commission. Their privacy policies apply on their sites. We do not receive your name or contact details from those retailers; we may receive summary reports such as the number of clicks or qualifying purchases. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more.

How we use information

  • To run your account and save your checklist progress.
  • To send account emails, such as confirming your sign-up, resetting your password, or confirming an email change. These are sent from {{ noreplyEmail }} through our email delivery provider, Resend.
  • To respect your “Email reminders” setting. If we send reminder emails, we only send them while that setting is on, and you can turn it off at any time in Dashboard → Settings.
  • To answer messages you send us.
  • To keep the site secure, fix problems, and improve it.
  • To comply with the law.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising. We do not use your account information to choose which ads you see.

Who we share information with

  • Service providers who help us run the site: Cloudflare (hosting), Supabase (accounts and database), and Resend (email delivery). They may only use the information to provide their services to us.
  • Legal reasons, if we believe it is required by law or needed to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or us.
  • A change of ownership, if the site is ever sold or transferred. This policy would continue to apply to information collected before the change.

How long we keep information

We keep your account information and checklist progress for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete your account and saved progress, except for anything we must keep by law. Copies in routine backups and service logs may remain for a limited time before they are overwritten.

Your choices and rights

  • You can change your name and email address, turn email reminders on or off, and reset your checklist progress in Dashboard → Settings.
  • You can ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account by emailing {{ contactEmail }} from the email address on your account.
  • Depending on where you live (for example, California or another US state with a privacy law), you may have additional rights. We will honor those rights as the law requires, and we will not treat you differently for using them.

Children’s privacy

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site uses HTTPS, and our database is set up so that each member can only read and change their own saved progress and profile. No website or online service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else.

Do Not Track

We do not track you across other websites, so we do not change how the site works in response to “Do Not Track” browser signals.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top. If a change is significant, we will make reasonable efforts to let members know.

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 26, 2026

These Terms of Use apply to PreparednessChecklist (preparednesschecklist.com), owned and run by Ryan Herrington (“we,” “us”). By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. General information only

The checklists, descriptions, and links on this site are general educational information to help you think about emergency preparedness. They are not professional medical, legal, financial, or safety advice, and they may not fit your situation. Food and water storage, fuel, generators, firearms, livestock, foraging, and similar topics carry real risks: use good judgment, follow manufacturer instructions and local laws, and follow guidance from official sources such as your local emergency management office and Ready.gov. In an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number.

2. Your account

You can use the checklist without an account. If you create one, please give a real email address you control, keep your password private, and let us know if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for activity on your account. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and if you are under 18 you should have a parent or guardian’s permission. You can stop using the site at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or remove accounts that break these terms.

3. Acceptable use

Please do not misuse the site. For example, do not try to access other people’s accounts or data, interfere with or overload the site, use automated tools to copy it in bulk, or use it for anything unlawful.

4. Our content

The site’s text, checklists, logo, and design belong to us or our licensors. You are welcome to use and print the checklist for your own personal, non-commercial use. Please do not republish or sell our content without permission.

5. Links, ads, and affiliate links

The site links to other websites, shows sponsored ads, and includes affiliate links, including Amazon affiliate links (see our Affiliate Disclosure). We do not control other websites and are not responsible for their content, products, prices, shipping, returns, or privacy practices. Any purchase you make is between you and that seller.

6. No warranties

The site is provided “as is” and “as available.” We work to keep it accurate and running, but we do not promise that it will be error-free, complete, always available, or that your saved progress will never be lost.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss or injury that results from using or relying on the site or any website or product it links to. Because the site is free, our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to $50 (US). Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.

8. Changes

We may change the site or these terms at any time. When we change these terms, we will update the “Last updated” date above. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of {{ governingState }}, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.

10. Contact

Questions about these terms: email {{ contactEmail }}. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated: October 26, 2026

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

PreparednessChecklist is free to use. To help cover the cost of running it, some links on the site are affiliate links, and the site has a few sponsored ad spaces. Here is what that means in plain English.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site, especially in the “Recommended Gear” sections, are affiliate links. If you click one and then buy something, the store may pay us a small commission. You do not pay anything extra – the price is the same as if you went to the store directly.

PreparednessChecklist is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. We may also take part in affiliate programs run by other stores.

Sponsored ad slots

Some image spots on the site are advertising space and are labeled “Sponsored”: the banner near the top of the home page, the image shown with each checklist category and item, and the image in the member dashboard. When one of these spots is filled, it shows an image that links to the advertiser’s website, and we may be paid by that advertiser. These ad links are marked as sponsored in the page code (rel=“sponsored”) and open in a new tab. An ad on this site is not an endorsement of everything the advertiser sells.

How we choose what to recommend

Commissions and ads help keep the site free, but they do not decide what goes on the checklist. We aim to recommend gear we believe is genuinely useful for preparedness. Prices, availability, and product details are set by the stores and can change at any time, so always check the store’s page before you buy. We do not sell products ourselves and are not responsible for a store’s products, shipping, returns, or warranties.

Questions

If you have questions about our affiliate links or ads, or would like to advertise, email {{ contactEmail }}.

About PreparednessChecklist

PreparednessChecklist is a free, simple way to get your household ready for emergencies one step at a time. Instead of trying to do everything at once, you work through clear checklists, check off what you already have, and watch your overall preparedness grow.

What’s on the checklist

The checklist covers food supply, water, shelter, health and hygiene, safety and security, power and communications, self-reliance skills, finances, a 72-hour kit, raising livestock, hunting and gathering, and building your community. Each category is split into Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced levels, so you can start with the essentials and build from there. Many items include a short explanation, recommended gear, and links to learn more.

How it works

  • No account needed. You can use the checklist right away; your progress is saved in your browser on that device.
  • Free account (optional). Sign up with your email to save your progress to your account, see your overall preparedness on your dashboard, and unlock achievements as you go.

Who runs it

PreparednessChecklist is created and run by Ryan Herrington. The goal is to make getting prepared less overwhelming and more practical for everyday families.

How the site is supported

The site is free. It is supported by affiliate links (including Amazon) and a few sponsored ad spaces. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Read the Affiliate Disclosure for details.

A note on safety

The information here is general and educational, not professional advice. Always follow official guidance from your local authorities. See our Terms of Use.
